UNDERWRITER
Reporting to the Reinsurance & Non-Motor Underwriting Manager, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with the implementation of the company’s non-motor operations strategy through business development and growth by building relations with assigned brokers and applying sound decision making to underwrite business that contributes to a profitable portfolio.
The position is based in Kingston. Our ideal candidate is a dynamic and organized individual, with strong communication and relationship building skills, and an ability to build and leverage networks. At minimum, applicants should possess the following:
- First Degree in Business Management or related field or pursuing professional Insurance Certification
- Technical training in all classes of insurance
- At least five (5) years’ experience in a general insurance environment
- Registration with the Financial Services Commission
- Knowledge of underwriting principles and practices
- Excellent problem solving, analytical skills and decision making
- Detail Oriented
- Good negotiation skills
- Ability to work as part of a team or individually
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to plan and organize
- Strong customer relations skill, poise, tact and diplomacy
- High level of confidentiality, honesty, integrity, creativity, persistence and achievement orientation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite [EXCEL, Word, PowerPoint etc.]
