SENIOR ACCOUNTANT - GK GENERAL INSURANCE
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the preparation and analysis of monthly management accounts and quarterly and annual financial reporting in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and ensure that the necessary adjustments for IFRS 17 are reflected in the Management Accounts and financial statements.
- Prepare reconciliations, analyses and periodic regulatory reports for presentation to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring they are in accordance with established guidelines.
- Contribute to the preparation of assigned Board Reports, Investment Committee reports, GKFG ALCO and other Management Reports.
- Prepare key reconciliations as assigned per the Accountants Checklist and analyze Balance Sheet and Income Statement Accounts within required timelines, providing explanation for variances, this involves timely investigation and clearance of reconciling items ensuring proper accounting for transactions.
- Contribute to the intercompany reconciliation process by ensuring that intercompany reconciliations are completed timely and reconciling items are cleared, this involves agreeing intercompany balances and transactions with the relevant counterparty and the required payments and collections are done timely.
- Ensure the efficient completion of the GK Group quarterly consolidation package within the established timeline.
- Coordinate the annual external audit and ensure that audit schedules are prepared and submitted to the auditors, audit queries are addressed in a timely manner and the draft audited financial statements are prepared for submission to the auditors for review and approval before the regulatory deadline.
- Provide support for the submission of Tax and other regulatory returns
- Support the preparation of the annual budget for companies assigned and monitor and report on performance against budget.
- Contribute to the maintenance of the Oracle General ledger, by approving journal entries, ensuring that all journal entries are properly supported, transactions are properly accounted for and are in compliance with IFRS
- Conducts performance reviews and assist in the development of the team by identifying training or coaching opportunities and work with the Financial Controller to close the gaps
Required Qualification, Experience, Knowledge and skills:
- A Masters degree with a concentration in Finance or Accounting or ACCA, CPA designation or equivalent
- Five (5) years’ experience in external audit or accounting at a supervisory level
- Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards and their application, with strong emphasis on IFRS 17
- Experience in the General Insurance Industry would be an asset.
- Proven capability of managing multiple deliverables to tight deadlines, in a highly controlled environment
- Detailed oriented with strong problem solving, decision-making skills and analytical thinking.
- Team Oriented
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Knowledge of Oracle Fusion would be an asset
