MANAGER, CREDIT ADJUDICATION
Purpose of Position
The Manager, Credit Adjudication is responsible for safeguarding the credit quality of the Bank’s entire credit portfolio across all credit products and services.
The incumbent ensures adherence to credit policies, regulatory standards, and risk management frameworks, including the evaluation and approval of credit proposals, process improvement, and capability building across credit teams
Key Responsibilities
• Review business and consumer loans application within agreed turnaround time
• Review and approve business and consumer credit applications within established and defined delegated lending authority.
• Assist with corporate and large business loan applications for submission to the Bank’s Credit Committee
• Follow-up on conditions for completion/adherence to approved credit.
• Review correspondence received and ensures prompt response.
• Provide coaching and guidance on the job, lenders, junior adjudicators and other personnel in the credit organization.
• Ensure compliance with Central Bank Regulatory requirements.
• Assist with execution of Key Strategic Objectives set by senior management.
• Conduct process reviews in all aspects of the Credit Approval and Credit Administration process.
• Assist with the annual credit policy review process and update
• Determine the adequacy and enforceability (with legal assistance if necessary) of collateral security, the financial condition of borrowers and their capacity to service the debts.
• Consult with the Assistant Vice President – Credit Adjudication & Training on credit applications in excess of the assigned lending authority.
Required Qualification, Experience, Knowledge
• First Degree in Management Studies, Finance, Economics or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of general lending and credit administration experience including at least three (3) years as an Adjudicator or Credit Underwriter.
• Detailed knowledge of consumer/commercial lending practices and credit analysis
• Knowledge of corporate lending practices and credit analysis
• Thorough knowledge of the Banking Services Act and the BOJ Regulations regarding Credit Classification, Provisioning and Non-accrual Requirements
• Sound knowledge of security documentation, perfection and procedure for discharge of various types of security
• Knowledge of computer applications used by the Bank
• Well-developed communication skills, oral and written
• Interpersonal skills to negotiate and work effectively with customers in distress, successfully handle complaints; ability to understand customers’ individual needs and requirements and vary interpersonal approach to each situation while achieving the Bank’s objectives
• Analytical skills and ability to assess lending risks
