LEGAL OFFICER - GK LIFE

 

 

The Legal Officer plays a critical advisory and risk‑management role in supporting the Company’s business operations, governance, and regulatory obligations. This role provides timely, practical legal guidance that enables the business to operate confidently, compliantly, and efficiently across its activities.


Working closely with management and external legal partners, the Legal Officer helps to protect the Company’s interests by balancing legal risk with commercial realities. This role is well suited to a legally trained professional who exercises sound judgement, values precision, and can translate legal complexity into clear, actionable advice.

 

What You’ll Be Responsible For
In this role, you will support the organization by:

  • Providing legal advice and guidance on matters affecting the business, including contracts, disputes, claims, and regulatory obligations
  • Reviewing and drafting legal documents and agreements, ensuring they are clear, accurate, and aligned with business objectives
  • Supporting litigation and non‑contentious matters, including managing claim recoveries and settlement negotiations where appropriate
  • Liaising with and instructing external attorneys and counsel, ensuring matters are handled efficiently and within agreed service standards
  • Monitoring legal matters to ensure timely delivery of legal services and effective issue resolution
  • Keeping the business informed of legislative and regulatory changes and advising management on potential impacts
  • Supporting compliance and regulatory engagement, including coordination with regulators and internal stakeholders

 

What Will Make You Successful

  • Qualification as an Attorney‑at‑Law, entitled to practise in one or more of the territories in which the Company operates
  • At least three (3) years’ legal experience, with demonstrated capability in legal drafting, interpretation, and general commercial law
  • Exposure to insurance and financial services, with working knowledge of the legislative and regulatory framework governing these sectors
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills, with the ability to assess legal and commercial risk
  • High professional integrity, discretion, and attention to detail
  • Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with business teams

  • A high degree of confidentiality, integrity, and professional judgement.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong organization and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
