ACCOUNTING OFFICER - BANKING & INVESTMENTS

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor accounts statements, verify all entries and general ledger balances, and reconcile the account/statement entries.
  • Ensure that all entries are cleared within the department’s stipulated timeframe.
  • Prepare invoices and follow up with collection in timely manner
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the fixed asset register including: a) proper classification of assets, b) tagging of new assets c) retirement of assets, in accordance to the company’s fixed asset policy. 
  • Ensure timely reconciliation of the assigned sub-ledgers to the respective G/L accounts.
  • Ensure that all reconciling items are cleared within the department’s stipulated timeline.
  • Ensure timely reconciliations of suppliers’ accounts and any other reconciliation, as required.
  • Prepare schedules for ALCO, Board, Audit Committee or any other committee reports as required.
  • Prepare quarterly consolidated schedules
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial statements by preparing specific and adhoc schedules/ reports as assigned. These include Notes & Coins reconciliation, Fx Spreads etc.
  • Prepare monthly business unit reports as required
  • Prepare the daily foreign currency position report, as required
  • Assist with the yearly budgeting exercise.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors ensuring their requests are fulfilled in a timely manner
  • Assist in preparation of statutory returns to ensuring accurate and timely filings
  • Perform regular self-audit reviews, as required.
  • Provide meaningful financial information to internal and external customers
  • Ensure that receivables are collected, as per department’s guidelines
  • Adhere to quality control guidelines established for the department
  • Contribute to efficient operation of the Accounting Department
  • Adhere to the Bank/Securities Company policies, procedures and Limits of Authority Document
  • Provide accounting assistance in the analysis of general ledger accounts and ensuring the adequacy of the month-end expense and non-interest income accruals
  • Prepare schedules for internal and external audit, inspection and annual budget exercise, as assigned

 

Minimum Qualification, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting/Management Studies and pursuing ACCA level 11 or CPA.
  • At least two (2) years professional experience
  • Ability to learn relevant mainframe applications, as required.
  • Knowledge of general ledger application and sub-ledger systems
  • Ability to understand, interpret and carry out procedures and detailed instructions
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure in order to meet established timelines
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite [EXCEL, Word etc.]
