ACCOUNTANT
The successful candidate will be responsible for directing and overseeing all the financial activities of the Credit Union in accordance with the guidelines stated in the policies and procedures manual.
Key Responsibilities
Financials, Bank Account, Investment and Expenses
- Prepare the monthly financial statements for review by General Manager/Treasurer
- Prepare the annual budget and forecasts, in conjunction with the General Manager
- Review and approve monthly bank reconciliations.
- Oversee the credit union’s investment portfolio.
- Maintain Emortelle Financial systems and interface with the general ledger.
- Prepare and compile the information for the Balance Score Card for review by General Manager and BOD.
Member Services and Lending
- Review reconciliation of members’ ledger to G/L control account
- To distribute members’ statements by the15th monthly and by the 15th after each quarter where applicable.
- Approve withdrawals and adjustments to individual member account.
- Identify financial trends and recommend proactive actions/plans to meet future credit union and member needs.
- Review the ATM Qnet analysis and check that entries are posted.
Regulators, Examiners and Auditors
- Ensure all required schedules and reports are prepared for the external quarterly, ad hoc and annual audit reviews.
- Prepare and submit reports to regulators (BOJ & JCCUL) by the specified due dates.
- Submit data to the Credit Bureau on or before the 10th of each month!
- Serve as the Credit Union’s primary contact/liaison with external institutions, referring to the General Manager on pertinent issues.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
System Administrator
- Serve as the Credit Union’s primary contact to resolve any technical issue that may occur.
- Create tickets with MSD and T-tech when a technical issue arises and follow through until a resolution is found.
Staff
- Supervise the lower-level staff in the day-to-day operational activities.
- Counsel and appraise accounting staff performance.
Required Qualification, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of financial lending operations
- Possess a sound accounting background.
- Excellent analytical skills and an eye for detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of initiative, integrity, confidential and reliability
- Team building skills.
- Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite [EXCEL, Word etc.].
- Minimum of three (3) years’ supervisory experience in a Credit Union or other financial institution.
- Level II ACCA or a First Degree in Accounting.
